Heinrich Himmler, The Mind Behind Hitler

This YouTube video, is one of many, which illustrates the life of Heinrich Himmler, the number one man behind Adolf Hitler. This video is a little messed up, has ominous music, and probably the most ridiculous comments (the first one below by kingbub09 is plain f***ed up) but I felt that our textbook had very little information on one of the most important men during WWII. This video is a great resource when looking at the rise of the Nazi regime.

  1. The video truly shows the horrors of Heinrich Himmler. The music made it ever so scary as well. I've always felt that the quiet, reserved, people are the most frightening, and Himmler fits that role. From seemingly a model family, Himmler grew up in normal circumstances. He desperately seeked to fight in WW1, but was too young. When old enough, he left his family, and joined Hitler's party. He took part in their unsuccessful coup, and quickly rose the ranks to become Hitler's right hand man. The most terrifying part of this video was when Himmler said he would gladly kill his mother if Hitler asked him to do so.

  2. I agree that it is very interesting that the textbook did not contain much information about Himmler. This video shows his great role in Hitler's reign. Even though Hitler did most of the thinking for Himmler, it seems as though Himmler should receive more of the blame than he has and that the textbook has given him. After all, without all of the members of the Nazi Party, such as Himmler, supporting Hitler; he would not have gained the amount of power he had and wouldn't have caused nearly as much destruction.

  3. I think it's very observant to notice Himmler's absence in recalling this time period. Good choice in video to display that, and you weren't kidding about it being dark.

  4. I'm really surprised that the textbook didn't mention very much about Himmler, because it's important to learn the entire story rather than just selected pieces.
