Article found about Taliban in Afghanistan

With the violence in Afghanistan to reported to be the highest that it has been since 2001 when the United States invaded Afghanistan, the United States can get all of the help they can get. The New York Times reports that Pakistani military have supported the Taliban. If the report is correct, it would pose a huge problem for the United States because Pakistan was supposed to be be helping the US. Although the Pakistani leaders say that there isn't any support coming from the people higher up in the government, they believe that there may be some support from people in the middle. The support is claimed to only be there to help build strong relationships with the Taliban so that when the United States eventually leaves Afghanistan, there will be a relationship between the Taliban and Pakistan.

  1. yikes!!! It would be absolutely terrible if the Pakistani government ceases to have control over their own military, and for their military to align with the Taliban.

  2. So support from Pakistan is there so that when "the United States eventually leaves Afghanistan, there will be a relationship between the Taliban and Pakistan". Do you think that this means that Pakistan believes that the US will fail to bring peace to the area?

  3. This is ridiculous. Six years ago we had Bin Laden screwed, trapped in a cave with the US closing in. Now Al Qaeda is more powerful than ever, with strong influence in many major governments, including Pakistan and Iran, while we are out 4000+ US soldiers and the whole world hates us. Anything with a -stan shouldn't be a problem anymore - instead, it's huge. F- for the US on this one.

  4. You can't build a relationship with the Taliban while your still fighting them. It was stupid for the Pakistani government to even say that. The US can't win a war against an enemy with no country, if it can't get the countries the enemy occupies to help them. Before we send anymore troops to Pakistan, we should investigate this claim. We can't risk the lives of our young men and women in a war with two enemies

  5. The Pakistani government needs to chose a side here; you either support the Taliban or you don't. We are in the Middle East with the impression that we have support from the higher government, so is that government screwing us over? Hopefully this claim about establishing a relationship is true. I mean they should have a stable relationship with the Taliban when the U.S. decides to leave, but a relationship is not the same thing as support.
